The Erie Canal Museum is the only one dedicated to the history of the Erie Canal. Executive Director, Diana Goodsight, explains why there is a Erie Canal Museum next to a busy paved street. In 1922, the city decided the canal should be filled in in order to promote commerce and make way for automobiles. People come to the museum, however, expecting to see water, but go away happy to be able to touch and see materials from that time period, 1850.>
